A PAIR OF MINTONS PÂTE-SUR-PÂTE OVIFORM VASES by Alboin Birks , decorated in white slip on peacock-blue grounds with maidens teaching cherubs how to fire arrows, one pair wearing helmets, the maiden wearing transparent drapery billowing behind her, the cherub wearing a cuirass, the other pair with the young naked cherub in flight and the maiden lightly clad in drapery, all standing on ledges issuing foliage, the reverses with trophies pendant from ribbons tied in bows, the waisted necks gilt with laurel and with gilt rims, signed A. Birks , gilt printed marks, impressed numbers 2443, pattern number NP1404, circa 1891 7½in. (19.4cm.) high (2)
