A PARCEL-GILT BRONZE 'MYTHICAL BEAST' CENSER LATE MING-EARLY QING DYNASTY, 17TH CENTURY The well-cast censer is finely chased and gilt in relief with mythical beasts gambolling amidst a sea of crashing waves, between a band of confronted phoenix to the waisted neck and archaistic phoenix to the foot. The censer is flanked by a pair of stylised dragon-head loop handles. The centre of the base is incised with the six-character mark, Yunjian Hu Wenming zhi , 'Made by Hu Wenming of Yunjian', contained within a rectangular panel. 6 1/2 in. (16.5 cm.) across the handles
