A PIECED AND APPLIQUED COTTON QUILTED COVERLET INSCRIBED "BALTIMORE," AND DATED 1845 Comprised of thirty-six variously appliqued squares of green, red, yellow, and blue cotton printed calicoes, including two flower baskets with butterflies, a bird with album book, crossed flags and Baltimore's Battle Monument flanked above by the letters "IO OF" and below by an Oddfellows Triple Chain and Heart-in-Hand motif, with several squares inscribed with names including "Susan Rebecca Taylor, 1845," "Anne E. Madden," "Daniel Burg---," "Ann E. GamBall," "Sarah Ann Ball," "and again, "Susan Rebecca Taylor, Baltimore, 1845," each square separated by green calico sashing and enclosed on three sides by a green and red calico tassel-and-swag border, the whole bound with green calico; the border worked in diamonf and swag quilting, the central field variously quilted--90¾in. high, 102½in. wide
