A PLAIN FACETED RUBY-RED GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE, QING DYNASTY Katalognummer: SN0618-036 Plain glass body with only few small bubbles, of flawless ruby-red color, with a remarkably fine and smooth surface polish China 18th – early 19th century A crisp little bottle of elegant form and striking color. The ruby glass, the faceting, and to some extent the simple yet efficient design all suggest a palace origin. The simplicity of the form, moreover, could possibly indicate a date from the earlier Qianlong period, long before one begins to see a tendency towards novelty in every aspect of the snuff-bottle arts. Shape: Flat oval Hollowing: Inner form almost absolutely symmetric to outside Mouth, neck and lip: Sprawling elongated neck with slanted lip, flat top and large mouth Base: Flat, oval with cut edges Design, marks, school: Likely Imperial glassworks, Beijing Stopper: Aventurine Height of the bottle with stopper: 7.2 cm. Width of the mouth: 8 mm. Width of the neck: 13 mm.
