A quantity of ephemera relating to the discovery of Longitude and John Harrison An autographed signed letter from Elizabeth Harrison to her husband William Harrison (d. 1816), dated London July 10th. 1761, mounted on fine linen and written on three pages; a fascinating and extremely personal letter written whilst William Harrison was in Portsmouth awaiting a ship to take H4 on its first sea trials. The Principles of Mr. Harrison's Time-Keeper with plates of the same , published by the Commissioners of Longitude, half calf, London, 1767. 'Horrins, Johan', Memoirs of A Trait in the Character of George III , London, 1835 (The author is in fact John Harrison anag. ), 1761-1842 and is a lengthy comment on extracts from John (longitude) Harrison's own Mss. Journal which was apparently sold to a stranger in 1912. A bound volume of anonymous manuscripts (with related letters from Col. H. Quill) bought by Capt. W.S. Harrison in 1924, the manuscript (approx. 95 pages) being based on (but strangely not entirely) Johan Horrins, Memoirs of a Trait in the Character of George III. Quill, Col. An Act for rendering more effectual an Act made in the Twelfth year of the reign of Her late majesty Queen Anne, intitled, An act for providing a publick reward for such person or persons as shall discover the Longitude at sea , London, 1762, six sides, loose-bound. Gould, R.T., The Marine Chronometer, its history and development , London, 1923. A solander box of 7 Harrison-related pamphlets including; Gould, Lt. Cmdr. R.T., The Restoration of John Harrison's Third Timekeeper , signed by Gould and dated 1932. Gould, Lt. Cmdr. R.T., Early marine Chronometers, an illustrated lecture delivered at the British Horological Institute, London, November 21st, 1923 , signed With the Author's Compliments and annotated J. Hope Jones's copy. The Geographical Journal, Gould, Lt. Cmdr. R.T., The History of the Chronometer, read at the afternoon meeting of the Society, 13 December 1920 , April 1921, Vol. LVII, No. 4. The Annual Register, 3 vols. 1765, 1776 & 1777 , each with small passages relating to Harrison and/or Longitude. Laycock, William, The Lost Science of John 'Longitude' Harrison , signed 1st. Ed., Ashford, 1976.
