THE RAEREN LATE 16TH CENTURY, THE WESTERWALD EARLY 17TH CENTURY
A RAEREN STONEWARE 'CHURFÜRSTEN' PEWTER-MOUNTED JUG AND A WESTERWALD STONEWARE 'BAUERNTANZ' JUG THE RAEREN LATE 16TH CENTURY, THE WESTERWALD EARLY 17TH CENTURY The first with a light-brown-ground body with a frieze of seven arched panels of Electors of the Holy Roman Empire, their names inscribed above, the shoulder and base with incised foliate motifs, the neck with a strapwork band enclosing alternating grotesque mascaroons, the terraced cover connected with a shell thumbpiece to the strap handle (crack to the handle, minor glaze chips to the upper rim and one to a rib), 33.5 cm. high, the second with grey ground dashed in blue with a frieze of arched panels with dancing peasants, with long inscription underneath, the lower part and shoulder with incised stylised motifs, the neck with a strapwork band with mascaroons, strap handle (the upper part with two restored fragments and connecting hairline crack, the base restored), 23.5 cm. high (2)
