A rare 16-bore French d.b. pin-fire combined shotgun and rifle, and an unusual 15-bore d.b. single-trigger percussion shotgun the first by Verney a Lyons, No. 3244, circa 1860, the second signed Ferratge a Grenoble, circa 1850 The first with rebrowned twist barrels, the rib inscribed 'Canon E Bernard' in gold gothic lettering and fitted with two folding back-sights, the underside stamped 'E. Bernard Brevété' and stamped with his barrelsmith's mark, back-action locks engraved with scrolling vines and signed in gold behind each hammer, Lefaucheux-type action, underlever, fore-end, and mounts all decorated with vines en suite with the locks, folding walnut butt hollowed out for the right barrel and hammer and with chequered grip, and iron sling mounts, the underside of the muzzles with a slotted tube, perhaps for a sporting bayonet (right barrel dented); the second with rebrowned damascus twist barrels (probably shortened) inscribed 'Damas d'Acier' in gold letters on the rib, enclosed box-lock action of Le Page type signed in gold on the hammers, figured walnut half-stock carved with a griffin behind the grip and with carved cheek-piece, the grip and fore-end with fish-scale chequering, scroll engraved iron mounts, and later barrel-bolt, nipples, and ramrod, Liège proof mark 27in. (68.6cm.) and 24 1/8in. (61.2cm.) barrels (2)
