A rare and very high quality wrought iron and brass box iron, on original stand, Austro-Hungarian Empire, dated 1831 Of ox-tongue form, the sole braised to the body of the iron, fitted with a plate of engraved cast brass, formed as a lyre amidst flowers and foliage, the high and curving handle with a pair of fluted boss terminals, fixed with a pair of screws with domed brass heads, the gate wrought iron overlaid with a brass plate engraved with a pot of flowers, the largest of which is bending to take the brass lift knob at its centre, '18' and '31' to the iron either side of the gate, with slug, 8.5cm wide x 25cm deep x 16.5cm high, the stand of brass plate, pierced and engraved with a lyre and conforming foliage, with low brass gallery raised on seventeen brass balls, a shaped wrought iron support to the underside holding the turned wooden handle and the three turned and beaded brass legs, 9cm wide x 37cm deep x 9cm high (3)
