A RARE EARLY EDO PERIOD CABINET ON STAND decorated in gold takamakie, hiramakie, kirigane, kimpun and aogai inlay, the top with a central shaped panel depicting a Chinese temple by a lake in a pine grove, the front with a central panel depicting a coastal landscape with boats and houses, the sides with similar panels with chrysanthemums by a river, all sides on a kimpun ground and surrounded by an aogai inlaid key-fret pattern border, the inside panels depicting a riverside with poppies, bellflowers, pinks, ominaeshi , and tsuyukusa by a river surrounded with by a shippo-hanabashi border, (interior drawers missing, crack at back), with finely chiselled silver alloy kanagu , first half of the 17th Century, circa 1640, 30.4 cm high, 43 cm wide, 38.1 cm deep, on a fine early 18th Century English carved gilt wood and gesso stand with a stiff leaf concave frieze above a pounced apron on leaf-carved club legs with pounced feet; some eighty years later than the cabinet, the stand was carefully made to fit a valuable object which was presumably imported from Holland around the turn of the century. Height of stand 72.5 cm
