A rare Meissen teapot and matched cover circa 1723-34 each side painted with a fable scene depicting various animals, one side with a peacock and a crane eating from a table on which stands a jug, the reverse with a seated fox, hares, a frog and other animals by a riverbank with reeds, enclosed by gilt scrollwork cartouches filled with Böttger lustre and embellished with iron-red scrollwork, the spout and handle with branches of indianische Blumen, the body with scattered insects and a bird, the contemporary matched domed cover with indianische Blumen issuing from rockwork and scattered insects, above two iron-red lines, gilt-edged rim and finial (small restored chip to rim of cover, miniscule chip to edge of rim) K.P.M. in underglaze-blue 15.5cm., 6 1/8 in. high
