A rare Victorian sterling silver double tea caddy, London 1844 by John Edward Terry Of inverted ogee form with a moulded edge. The hinged domed lid with incurved corners, surmounted by a faceted knop finial. The body engraved with Rococo revival decoration of C scroll cartouches reserved with latticework flanked by foliage and eagles to the corner sections. The front and back with an engraved strapwork cartouche with a pediment of foliate scroll surmounted by a demi-eagle rising, the base section formed as symmetrical foliate scrolls, the front engraved with a crest of a stag’s head erased. The interior with a removable dividing sheath. Lock mechanism, key deficient. Fully marked to the side, part-marked to the lid interior, the dividing sheath unmarked. Length – 15 cm / 5.9 inches Height – 14.8 cm / 5.9 inches Weight – 539 grams / 17.33 ozt
