A RECTANGULAR PARCEL-GILT GRISAILLE ENAMEL PLAQUE REPRESENTING JUSTICE BY JEAN II PENICAUD, CIRCA 1540 The female figure of Justice depicted half-length and facing to sinister in front of a niche, with a sword in her right hand and an orb with a set of scales in her left; signed with initials upper left 'P.I.' and inscribed at bottom centre 'IVSTICIA'; the reverse stamped twice with a crowned 'P' and with paper label inscribed in ink '1899/Cottreau'; in a later ormolu frame decorated with rosettes, and a velevt-covered surround; minor damages and restorations 10¾ x 8¼ in. (27.4 x 21 cm.)
