Beschreibung:

China, Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period
A container for food with its underplate in the bright colours of the famille rose porcelain. Modelled in a naturalistic way, the tureen is in the form of a rooster with proud expression and rich colourful plumage. As in the preceding lot, (probably formed part of the same set), it is a classical example of high level Chinese production for an important Europe patron. Similar examples for shape, decoration and size are documented as "export porcelain", already during the Kangxi period , Being an elegant and sought-after subject, the cock was frequently associated with the far East. Soup tureens and trays with the image of this bird were much appreciated for the exotic and elegant style that they gave as part of the dinner service used during important banquets. Provenance: purchased in Portugal in the 1980's.
