A RUBY-RED OVERLAY WHITE GLASS 'AUSPICIOUS OBJECTS' SNUFF BOTTLE, QING DYNASTY Katalognummer: SN0618-035 Carved and incised transparent ruby red overlay on a transparent snowflake glass body China 18th – earlier 19th century Carved through the red overlay to the snowflake ground to depict several auspicious objects such as a three-legged bronze incense burner with smoke emerging from its lid, a bamboo brush holder holding several brushes, a Fang Gu bronze holding lotus plants, a bowl on a stand holding a peach, a pomegranate and a Buddha’s hand citrus, two books, two dragons emerging from lingzhi, all with neatly incised details. Shape: Flattened globular form Hollowing: Standard Mouth, neck and lip: The neck with a later metal (possibly silver) mounting under which the glass is still fully intact, very wide mouth Base: Oval base with broad flattened foot rim Stopper: Carved bone with inlay work depicting the Ying Yang symbol Height of the bottle with stopper: 6.8 cm. Width of the mouth: 11 mm. Width of the neck: 19 mm.
