A SELECTION OF ROMAN JEWELRY Circa 1st-4th Centuries A.D. And Later Including a pair of earrings with disk-shaped shields and inverted pyramids of hollow balls, some damage; a pair of hoop earrings of partially beaded wire, each wrapped with two rings of beaded wire; a pair of earrings of navicella form each with inverted pyramids of hollow balls and set with tear-shaped garnets fringed with granulation, with large tear-shaped box above set with glass, one earring severely damaged; a pair of Hellenistic earrings with dolphin-head terminals the hoops strung with gold and glass beads, none original to the earrings; a figure of Eros suspended from an earring composed of modern elements; an amphora-shaped pendant suspended from a circular box set with a garnet; an earring with a large sheet disk above an inverted pyramid of hollow balls fringed with granulation, the back of the disk set with a modern cabachon garnet; a Byzantine earring with three openwork balls and an oval box originally set with stone or glass; a Byzantine miniature earring with an openwork ball; a pair of modern earrings in the Roman style with a sheet disk, twisted wire in back, with elaborate filligree and granulated boxes below containing profile heads with spurious inscriptions; and a large Indian disk-shaped ear spool ornamented with granulation, with two large projections below of tapering tubes and hollow balls (16)
