A SET OF FIVE GEORGE IV SILVER-GILT DESSERT STANDS AND EIGHT DESSERT PLATES EN SUITE MARK OF EDWARD FARRELL, LONDON, 1823-1825 In the Baroque revival style, comprising a set of four dessert stands, and a larger dessert stand, each on plain trumpet foot, the everted fluted border chased and applied with fruits and foliage framed by large acanthus leaves and grotesque masks, together with a set of eight shaped circular dessert plates, each engraved with a coat-of-arms within an elaborate baroque cartouche, with duke's coronet above, marked on or under border the large stand 15 in. (38 cm.) diameter; the four stands 121/2 in. (32 cm.) diameter; the plates 10 in. (25.5 cm.) diameter 316 oz. 10 dwt. (9,847 gr.) The arms are those of Manners impaling Howard for John Henry, 5th Duke of Rutland K.G. (1778-1857) and his wife Lady Elizabeth Howard, daughter of Frederick Howard, 5th Earl of Carlisle, whom he married in 1799.
