Property from a Private CollectionA set of four Charles II oak and tapestry covered chairscirca 1670 the seats and backs upholstered with border fragments from a Flemish large leaf verdure tapestry, Enghien, circa 1520-1550, woven with exuberant fruit and foliage, on turned front legs united by a bobbin turned stretcherCondition ReportA lovely set. Each chair with re-tipped rear legs and later applied bun front feet. These later feet formerly with castors or metal pads. Some chips to edges. Evidence of historic worm. Variations to colour and polish in places as to be expected. Typical old marks and scratches consistent with age and use. Each chair is generally good and appears recently conserved. Tapestry generally good. Some historic stitched repairs. The tapestry has been cut down from a historic wall tapestry. One seat back especially faded. Chair 1. Spliced repair to rear right leg proper. Front right leg proper with well done repair and applied re-carved element to the top of the leg where it meets the seat. Chair 2. Tear to tapestry seat. Chair 3. Generally good. Chair 4. Lovely old historic repair in the form of a crude metal plate to the reverse of the front seat rail. One interior side rail with detached horizontal section of timber, this appears to be an old break which has been repaired in the past as there is residual glue, it will require re-affixing. A special set which is extremely decorative. height overall 94cm. width overall 47.5cm. depth (approx) 43cm.
