A set of four George II silver-gilt figural candlesticks maker's mark of Paul de Lamerie London, 1746 Each on shaped-triangular base cast and chased with scrolls, trailing vines and bunches of grapes, the stems each formed as a demi-bacchanalian figure, his arms held aloft and holding a bunch of grapes and supporting a vase-shaped socket, each with detachable circular nozzle, the bases and nozzles each engraved with a crest beneath an Earl's coronet, marked on bases and nozzles, two maker's marks to the bases indistinct, each numbered and with scratch weights - I-48=11, II-50=4, III-47=7, IV-49 12in. (30.5cm.) high 195ozs. (6,091grs.) The crest is that of Crichton for William, 5th Earl of Dumfries, K.T. (d.1768). (4)
