Lot Description: A Small Early 19th Century Four-Way Bone Brisé Fan , carved and pierced, one side engraved, the hand-coloured scene showing Zeus and Hera, a peacock to their right, an eagle with outspread wings at their feet, bordered with bold gold scrolling. The second side is painted with bright flowers, the third with a scene of a Regency lady in white gown pouring a drink for a child from a large jug, into a goblet, this depiction bordered in blue with the addition of pink flowers. Finally, a yellow basket containing small lilac and blue flowers. Barrel rivet. Twenty-five inner sticks and two guards, all with gently pointed tips. Guard length approx. 6 inches or 15cm. Together with A Carved and Pierced Wood Four-Way Brisé Fan, circa 1820's , with twenty-one inner sticks and two guards. Barrel head. To one side, a painting of flowers. To another, a young man heading towards a river with viaduct in the background, carrying his fishing rod, the third shows a shepherd in red jacket watching over his sheep, and finally, a quaint depiction of an angel or fairy, in fact Fortune, usually portrayed on a globe, with wings, and blindfolded. Guard length approx. 6.25 inches or 15.5cm (2) Condition Report: . The bone brisé has some glue residue in places, and slight damage to the top of at least 3 sticks. Please note one image is the double of the image in a separate lot. One guard possibly not the original? The wood brisé has losses to at least three sticks, two quite major, and the ribbon needs to be reglued. ARR: Categories: Fans
