Beschreibung:

A STAFFORDSHIRE PEARLWARE BUST OF THE ACTRESS MARIA FOOTE OF OBADIAH SHERRATT TYPE AFTER AN ORIGINAL BY ENOCH WOOD Circa 1835 Painted in colours on a socle base, 25cm high Note: Maria Stanhope, Countess of Harrington (1797?-1867), born the daughter of a theatre manager and thus took to the stage early in life. She was by all accounts a great beauty and was therefore never really out of work for long periods and was as a result one of the most famous actresses of her day. She formed various liaisons with men, all proving unsatisfactory until eventually marrying the Earl of Harrington and leaving the stage. This model is associated with the Staffordshire potter Obadiah Sherratt and usually has a so-called table base. Condition Report: Probably lacking the original Obadiah Sherratt type titled table base. Examination of the socle rim would lead one to believe that the table base has neatly been lost at the manufacturing join. Condition Report Disclaimer
