Beschreibung:

A Superb Collection of Photographs Relating to the Guerrilla War in the Cape Colony Approximately 32 photographs, mostly 6in. by 8in. (a few smaller) (15cm. by 20cm.), relating to the Guerrilla War in Cape Colony, almost all with contemporary annotation to reverse, including photographs of public promulgation of death sentences of Cape rebels, many views of Cradock, de Lisle's Column passing through the town, the jail where Lotter's men were held pending sentence, several group photographs, etc., and also including a particularly interesting sequence showing Willem Fouche and members of his commando (some wearing captured British uniform) immediately after their surrender at the cessation of hostilities, several of these shots indicating a surprising degree of fraternisation between the Boers and the British Officers, despite the fact that Fouche and his men had been a considerable thorn in the side of the British
