A Sure Method of Improving Estates, by Plantations of Oak, Elm, Ash, Beech, and other Timber Trees, first edition, first issue (with the preliminaries incorrectly numbered), engraved folding frontispiece, title in red and black, 4pp. advertisements at end (not called for), title offsetting onto frontispiece, a few small stains, occasional spotting, contemporary calf, gilt, corners worn, rubbed, [Fussell p.27; Goldsmiths' 6587; Henrey 929; Hunt 473; cf. Janson pp.278-279], a good copy, Printed for Francis Clay, 1728; and another copy of the first issue, 8vo (2) *** Langley ran a successful business in gothic landscape architecture and his own academy of architectural drawing. Janson credits him with the innovation of depicting the developing stages of the blossoms of fruit trees and then the ripening of the fruits as seen in his Pomona of 1729.
