And An Essay towards the Topography, and Natural History of the important Country. By John Filson. To Which is Added, I. The Adventures of Col. Daniel Boon, one of the First Settlers, comprehending every important Occurrence in the Political History of that Province. II. The Minutes of the Piankashaw Council, held at Post St. Vincent's, April 15, 1784. III. An Account of the Indian Nations inhabiting within the Limits of the Thirteen Unites States; their Manners and Customs; and Reflections on their Origin. Author: Imlay, Gilbert Place: London Publisher: J. Debrett Date: 1793 Description: xvi, 433, [1 blank], [20] pp. Illustrated with a large folding copper-engraved map frontispiece, a folding copper-engraved plan of the Rapids of the Ohio; folding table showing the distances between Pittsburg and the mouth of the Ohio; and Filson's folding copper-engraved map of Kentucky. 8¼x5, rebacked in contemporary calf, spine lettered in gilt. Second Edition, with considerable Additions. Important work on the trans-Alleghany region as settlers were streaming in following the American Revolution, in which conflict the author served as a captain in the American Army. Second half of the book includes John Filson's "The Discovery, Settlement, and Present State of Kentucky," and his map, which did not appear in the first edition. Howes I 12; Sabin 34355.
