Beschreibung:

A TRANSPARENT AND PURE ‘HONEY’ AMBER SNUFF BOTTLE Katalognummer: SN0618-069 Amber of intense honey-brown color, almost flawless and highly transparent, with only very few inclusions and some scattered crizzling, good patina and outstanding manual surface polish China 18th – early 19th century The well-hollowed and therefore extremely light bottle of elegant bulbous-oval shape with cylindric neck and raised, oval foot rim, the slightly crizzled amber of transparent, variegated golden-brown color with scattered darker streaking. The traditional form, combined with the eccentric beauty of the material, distinguishes this bottle as one of the outstanding examples of its type. Much early amber is crizzled, and this trait, like crizzling on glass, is considered a positive factor among collectors, demonstrating the natural effects of time on a delicate material. It is also in excellent, if not unique condition for an early bottle in a material which is extremely vulnerable to the sort of use it would have exposed to, suggesting that early amber bottles must have been in far larger numbers than those surviving would lead to believe. Shape: Bulbous oval Hollowing: Excellent Mouth, neck and lip: Cylindric, elongated and sprawling neck with flat top and wide mouth Base: Oval with raised and rounded foot rim Stopper: Apple green jadeite, old stained spoon Height of the bottle with stopper: 7 cm. Width of the mouth: 16 mm. Width of the neck: 8 mm. Condition: Perfect Provenance: American private collection, old collector number inscribed to base of bottle Literature comparison: IMPORTANT CHINESE SNUFF BOTTLES FROM THE J&J COLLECTION. Christies, Hong Kong, April 25th, 2004, lot 851. FINE CHINESE CERAMICS AND WORKS OF ART. Bonhams, Hong Kong, May 26th, 2014, lot 46. Fine Chinese Ceramics & Works of Art. Sotheby’s, New York, September 17th,2013, lot 181. The Maxwell Collection of Chinese Snuff Bottles, Robert Hall, London 2013, lot 98 and 99. (all for related plain amber snuff bottles) Also compare three bottles of different shapes formed from similar virtually flawless amber in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, illustrated in Snuff Bottles in the Collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1991, nos. 381-383. 清代透明純净蜜蠟鼻烟壺 品相完美 美國私人收藏, 瓶底可見舊藏編號及描述 Schätzpreis 估價: € 800 Startpreis 起拍價: € 400
