(8vo) 8½x5, original blindstamped cloth, spine lettered in gilt. First Edition, large paper issue. Westwood & Satchell note that "a few copies were on large paper, with cuts on India paper," and this is one of them. "Shipley is thorough and comprehensive in describing his view on fly tying, fly patterns and the old controversy of 'match the hatch' versus impressionistic patterns. One chapter deals with trolling. He is generally considered the first author to mention the practive of false casting in order to remove excess moisture from the fly" (Norton II 198). Bookplate of "Bibliotheca Piscatoria Lynniana". Heckscher 1771; Westwood & Satchell p.194. Lot Amendments Condition: Slight lean, mild wear to extremities, sunning to cloth, bookplate removed from front free endpaper; frontispiece spotted and with corner dampstain (less so to title-page as well); very good.
