Armenian manuscript on vellum, three lines of bird erkat'agir capitals painted in a single column, (reading 'In the beginning was the Word'), the headpiece decorated with floral interlace, the entire length of the left margin occupied by the decorated initial I incorporating an eagle holding a book in its beak, the symbol of St. John, the top of the headpiece with the image of Christ holding a book and making the sign of the cross, surrounded by birds dipping their beaks into fountains, the outer margin and border decorated with an elaborate marginal ornament of interlacing palmettes surmounted by a cross, two letters in a cartouche indicating the mode in which the text is to be recited, folding and creasing, some losses to illumination, in mount 307 x 235 mm.
