A Very Fine Model Of The H.M.S. VICTORY built by John Flannery, circa 1940 A scratch built model of Lord Nelson's flagship from the battle of Trafalgar. The hull of the model is built up from the solid with balck and white painted topsides, and a copper painted bottom. The deck of the model is of a veneer, which has been stained and scored to represent the deck planking. At the bow of the model is a carved shield with a painted crest and carved figures on either side. The details of the model are as follows: anchors (4), pin and fife rails, deck gratings, belfry, cannons on sleds and carriages, deck railings, ladders, ship's boats mounted amidships with lifting lines, compass box, ship's wheel, ship's boats on davits, skylights, lanterns, quarter galleries, stern galleries, flags and pennants, and numerous other details. The model is well rigged with three masts, standing and running rigging, including: forestays, ratlines, backstays, toping lifts, bracing lines, bowsprit, cross spars, stun'sail booms, tops and trees, as well as other rigging details. The model is displayed on a pair of wooden cradles in a maple framed glass display case. The display case sits on a base with three drawers and a book shelf. 45 x 18 x 55 in. (114.3 x 45.7 x 139.7 cm.) Cased dimensions on stand.
