A very fine scale model of the U.S.F. Constitution Leonard Brainsky, C.M.M.S. (American, born 1925) A very fine scale model built to museum quality standards. The model is built up in plank on frame construction, and finished bright, with the hull of the model planked in maple and the planking held in place with tree nails. At the bow are carved stem rails and billet head, and at the stern are open quarter galleries, and carved name, stars and eagle. The decks of the model are planked in cherry, and are tree nailed as well. Several areas of the deck planking have been left un-planked so the interior construction can be viewed. The deck of the model is well detailed and includes the following: carved stem rails and billet head, anchors, anchor rodes, coils of line, stove pipe, bell and befry, pin and fife rails, deck grating, ladders, deck eyes, shot racks, hammock nets, ship's boats lashed to deck and on davits at the stern, capstan, double ship's wheel, skylight, cleats, and numerous other details. The model is well rigged with a bowsprit and three masts, standing and running rigging which includes: bound lower masts sections, trees and tops, cross spars with stun'sail booms, spanker boom and gaff, deadeyes, ratlines, stays, halyrads, sheets, bracing lines, turning blocks, hoisting lines, etc. The model is displayed on a pair of cradles in the form of dolphins, and displayed in a glass and cherry framed case. 42 x 17½ x 31.5 in. (106.7 x 44.5 x 80 cm.) cased dimensions. built in 1978
