A very rare contemporary mid-18th Century partially planked brass pinned boxwood model of a ship's boat. --1¼ x 8in (3.3 x 20.3cm). The hull with exposed ribs and keel has bottom boards, thwarts and rowlocks for ten oarsmen, stern thwarts and seating, and is finished in lacquer with venetian red bulwarks and black and gilded gunwhale decoration, the ten oars finished in red with decorated curved blades, square looms and boat hook. Stand. Exhibited, National Maritime Museum 1983-1993.
