A very rare Hugh Powell brass compound microscope with the signature of Dollond, circa 1838 signed Dollond London , undated , the body tube attached by a short arm to the top of the hexagonal-section limb, arranged to swivel through 180° so that the collar on the opposite end can be used with a simple microscope objective, the limb with rack and pinion movement for focusing by means of two knurled wheels, behind the left-hand of these a rod attached for fine focusing, clamped in place by means of turning the knulred wheel at its end, the fully-adjustable mechanical stage ( see below ) supported on the limb with two curved brackets, with sub-stage diaphragm wheel with four apertures and a plano-concave sub-stage mirror on a quadrant arm and sliding sleeve mounting, the limb attached via compass joint to a telescopic pillar and flat tripod foot, the legs with bevelled edges, the front one signed Dollond London , with three numbered eye-pieces, six achromatic objectives in labelled cans, and other items ( see below ) in a maroon-lined drawer in the origianl wooden carrying case, the inside of the door with applied trade label for H.
