GENEVA, CIRCA 1790
A VERY RARE SET OF SIX ENAMELED GOLD EUROPEAN-SUBJECT BELT FITTINGS GENEVA, CIRCA 1790 Each circular fitting decorated with a split-pearl-bordered face enameled with translucent royal blue within paillon borders, each pair exquisitely painted in mirror image, the first pair comprising two fittings slotted to slide on a belt and hung with a gold oval loop depicting a lady and a child chasing away a bird, another pair of similar size also slotted to slide on a belt depicting a lady and a child releasing a bird from its cage, with a dog at their feet, the last pair decorated on either side and painted with scenes of a young lady attending to two rabbits, and a young boy attempting to catch two doves, each scene set in a luxurious garden setting, From largest to smallest: 1 7/8 in. (4.7 cm.) diam. and 3½ in. (8.9 cm.) long; 1 7/8 in. (4.7 cm.) diam., 1 3/8 in. (3.4 cm.) diam., fitted cloth box (6)
