A VERY RARE SOVIET PORCELAIN GROUP 'FAMINE' BY THE STATE PORCELAIN FACTORY, PETROGRAD, 1922 Realistically modelled as two emaciated adults and children, the standing figure wearing a pale brown tattered robe, the seated figure wearing a pale blue shirt, pale green skirt, and red headscarf, after the model by Natalya Danko of 1921, created to commemorate the famine of 1920 in the lower Volga region, marked inside the base with green underglaze hammer, sickle and cog, blue overglaze date '1922' and inscription 'No 279 8', with further indistinctly impressed initials of a modeller 7 in. (17.8 cm.) high
