A Victorian rosewood Eight-Day Marine Chronometer James Muirhead & Son, No. 3511, Circa 1863 The silvered dial signed and numbered James Muirhead & Son Makers to the Admiralty, 90, Buchanan Strt, Glasgow 3511 , Roman hour numerals, gold hour and minute hands, subsidiary seconds and up-and-down dials with blued steel hands, main-frame assembly carrying reversed fusee, barrel and centre wheel, circular sub-frame assembly carrying the remainder of the train and semi-circular balance guard, Earnshaw escapement, cut bimetallic balance with Poole auxiliary, cylindrical heat compensation weights, spring foot detent with (shortened) jewelled locking stone, brass bowl and gimbal numbered 3511, in three tier brass-bound rosewood box, the middle section with applied rectangular white plaque inscribed James Muirhead & Son. 3511, Glasgow , external brass drop handles Dial 112mm. diam; Box 200mm. sq.
