MARK OF ROBERT GARRARD LONDON, 1840
A VICTORIAN SILVER SOUP-TUREEN, COVER AND STAND MARK OF ROBERT GARRARD LONDON, 1840 Shaped circular and melon-fluted on four pierced and cast scroll feet, the sides cast with garlands of wildflowers on a matted ground and applied with a coat-of-arms to each side, with openwork scroll side-handles, detachable spirally-fluted cover with flower bud finial, silver liner, all upon a shaped-oval fluted stand engraved with three crests below a coronet; marked underneath, inside cover, liner, underneath stand and on finial 18 in. (45.7 cm.) wide, overall 214 oz. 2 dwt. (6,658 gr.) The arms are those of Rothschild impaling Montefiore for Sir Anthony Nathan de Rothschild (1810-1876) and his wife Louise (1821-1910), daughter of Abraham Montefiore, who he married in 1840.
