A VIENNA-STYLE CIRCULAR DISH painted by C. Forster with Venus in der Schmiede bei Vulkan , Venus descending on a cloud with her attendants into Vulcan's cave, the god seated with armour beside his companions at the furnace, the scene enclosed within a seeded gilt shaped-rectangular cartouche, on a pale-yellow ground richly gilt with interlaced scrolls, the pale-blue border reserved with claret cartouches enclosing gilt vignettes of animals in landscape, divided by pink cartouches enclosing circular medallions flanked by foliate-scrolls, within a gilt rim, artist's signature, blue beehive and Austria marks, Pressnummern 1 and 13, black script, circa 1891 16½in. (42cm.) diam.
