A William IV mahogany mercury stick barometer Thomas Jones London circa 1830 With moulded upstand and cavetto moulded cornice above rectangular glazed silvered brass vernier scale calibrated in barometric inches and with the usual observations beneath signature THO'S JONES, 62 Charing Cross. to upper right hand corner opposing mercury tube Fahrenheit scale thermometer to the left hand side, the caddy-moulded trunk with vernier adjustment square flanked by cavetto throat mouldings to sides over flame-figured front and domed cistern cover applied to the rounded base with level adjustment square to underside, 97cm (38ins) high. Thomas Jones is recorded in Clifton, Gloria Directory of British Scientific Instrument Makers 1550-1851 as working alone from several addresses in London from 1806, including 62 Charing Cross from 1816, until 1831 when he entered into partnership with his sons.
