(13 x 8 in.), integral blank, tipped to a larger sheet . Fine. Vice-President Adams acknowledges the receipt of North Carolina's electoral votes for the presidential election of 1792. President Washington was re-elected, winning all electoral votes and carrying all fifteen states. Adams, however, had alienated many of the Jeffersonians and there was a concerted campaign mounted to replace him with George Clinton of New York. Even Adams's good friend Benjamin Rush "had so fallen under the influence of Jefferson and his adherents that he joined the movement to replace Adams..." (P. Smith, John Adams , 2: 830). When the electoral votes were tallied, Adams received the second highest number of votes, 77, and was also re-elected. "Rec[eive]d from the Hand of Doctor Stephen White a Packet certified by the Electors of North Carolina to contain a List of their votes for President and Vice President of the United States..."
