An Oration delivered at the State-House, in Philadelphia, to a very numerous Audience; on Thursday, the 1st of August, 1776.

Condition : inner hinge reinforced, rear hinge starting; restoration along the front joint, rear joint worn. first edition of a false philadelphia imprint. This oration was never delivered in Philadelphia; indeed, it was never given by Adams at all. The work, published before knowledge of American Independence had reached London, is entirely a fabrication bent on fanning the flames of the Revolution and was “designed to show that the colonies were bent on independence” (Howes).
