Admiral Richard Aldworth Oliver (1811-1889), a watercolour, painted during a tour of the Lake District in July 1845. Admiral Oliver sketched whilst serving as a naval officer. An important Oliver collection of over sixty paintings is held at New Zealand House London, as he is regarded as a prominent artist of the New Zealand topographical genre. These Lake District watercolours were presented to a local charitable institution in 1970 by the artist's grandson Mr G C S Oliver.
