Engraved frontispiece, engraved additional title, engraved coat-of-arms, engraved portrait, 31 engraved plates (illustrating the Life) and 110 etched vignettes with verses etched on the plates, all by Thomas Dudley and others. Contemporary English black gilt-paneled morocco, spine gilt in 8 compartments, gilt-lettered in one, edges gilt. Provenance : Lionel Phillips (armorial bookplate); acquired from Leonard Schlosser, 1986. Second edition, of Aesop's Fables, with text by Aphra Behn replacing the 1666 English text by Thomas Philipott. The 31 plates illustrating the life of Aesop appear for the first time. It includes the "indecent" plate 17 sometimes suppressed. Possibly a large-paper copy. See previous lot for a copy of the first edition. Wing A-703.
