Burgstraße with Lange Brücke and Kavaliersbrücke, view towards the Royal Castle. Circa 1856. Albumen print with cut corners. 12 x 19 cm. Flush-mounted to card. The left side of the picture shows an interesting detail, namely the fence around the demolition site of Palais Itzig which is in the process of being torn down. The Berliner Börse was later built on this site. The west wing of the Palais remained intact and was used by the construction workers. To take this image Leopold Ahrendts most likely stood on construction scaffolding which was in the middle of Burgstraße. – A few minimal surface scuff marks, otherwise a dark print in very good condition. Lit.: Galerie Berinson (ed.). Leopold Ahrendts (1825 - 1870). With a text by Sigrid Schulze. Berlin 2011, ill. p. 49.
