2 volumes bound together, comprising: A selection of the most interesting of Sir Robert Ainslie's celebrated collection of views in Turkey in Europe, and in Asia ; Syria, Sicily, the Eolian Islands ; temple of Diana, at Ephesus ; Jupiter Ammon, in Libya, &c. &c. [4] pp. + 24 hand-colored aquatint plates, 1 of them double-page. A selection of the most interesting of Sir Robert Ainslie's celebrated collection of views in Egypt, Asia Minor, &c. &c. [4] pp. + 32 hand-colored aquatint plates. (folio) 48.8x33.3 cm 19¼x13¼"), period half calf & marbled boards, spine lettered in gilt. Spectacular series of hand-colored aquatint plates of people and scenery of the Middle East, likely engraved by W. Watts, from drawings by Luigi Mayer They are selected from Mayer's Views of the Ottoman Domains. The second work has, at the end. eight plates not on list of plates, and not usually found in copies of the book, which normally has 24 plates. Whether the work is extra-illustrated, or a special copy so issued, has not been determined. The extra plates are: Jerusalem with the Church of the Holy Sepulchre The City of Corinth The Sepulchre of Rachel Remains of a Tower on Mount Zion The Sepulchre of Absalom Joseph's Hall in the Castle of Cairo Tomb of Jeremiah Temple of Solomon
