Air Mail cover Another envelope carried from Melbourne to Darwin bearing K.G.V 2d. (2) cancelled by Rochester (7.12) c.d.s. plus Air Mail 3d. tied by Darwin (12.12) c.d.s. and the "BERTRAM ALANTIS/EXPEDITION" cachet and is backstamped London 1937 (8 Dec.) and Melbourne (23.12). This was among the Melbourne to Darwin covers which were over-carried to Germany and is accompanied by the following letter from the Postmaster-General's Department, "The annexed Air Mail letter addressed to you, posted at Darwin on 12.12.1932, and bearing an imprint indicating conveyance to England in a flight by Captain K. Hans Bertram about that time, was received at Melbourne this morning under cover of an explanatory note from London. It is stated that the letter reached London from Berlin having been found at that Office; the Berlin Authorities were, however, unable to state how this letter came to hand or the for the delay attending its disposal"
