Subtitled The Story of How More Than Two Thousand Men and Women Have Recovered from Alcoholism. New York: Works Publishing Company, 1941 (March). 8vo, blue cloth with embossed Alcoholics Anonymous and gilt spine lettering, 400pp. Originally published in 1939 by the fledgling Works Publishing Company, organized by AA founders, the "Big Book" was the beginning of both the name - Alcoholics Anonymous - and the famous 12-step program. As Bill and Dr. Bob found it necessary to let alcoholics know that there was help for them, putting their experiences in writing seemed the most effective approach. But as the book started coming together, Bill realized that he needed an program for the alcoholic to follow. The result, of course, is history. Condition: Minor shelf wear, especially at spine ends. Discoloration of pastedowns because of adhesive. A few scattered pencil marks. Otherwise, very good.
