ALEC GUINNESS: AN ORIGINAL SCRIPT FOR HIS PLAY 'GREAT EXPECTATIONS', ca.1939: approx. 34pp.of mimeographed typescript, later annotated in pencil throughout, believed by actress Sheila Roy, bound in buff coloured card covers with typescript title, and actress May Hallatt's name handwritten in pen above, first title page reads, 'Great Expectations, A Play By Alec Guinness, Constructed on the novel by Charles Dickens Alec Guinness, Waddington, Lodsworth, Sussex', with embossed stamp of Mrs Marshall's Typewriting Office on The Strand.. * Alec Guinness adapted Charles Dickens's novel in 1939 for the stage, also playing the character 'Herbert Pocket', the play was a success, a young British film editor David Lean was one of the viewers, later casting Alec Guinness in his film adaptation of the play.
