FIRST EDITION. THE RARE RUSSIAN-LANGUAGE ISSUE. PRINCE KOUDACHEV'S COPY. The coronation album of Alexander III, illustrating the ceremonies and events in Moscow, was printed in a small edition for members of the Imperial family and foreign dignitaries participating in the celebrations on 15 May 1883. According to Burtsev it was never offered for public sale and is accordingly rare. Prince Koudachev was at various times Russian Ambassador to Belgium, Luxemburg, and Spain. In an early, perhaps contemporary wooden case, and with a coronation jetton, probably gold, c.9gm, hallmarked on a loop, with the monograms of Alexander III and Maria Feodorovna in blue and red enamel, and, in Russian, 'Moscow, 15 May 1883' on the reverse. Burtsev 1902; Fekula 2112 ('very rare'); Lipperheide Sk11.
