ALFRED D. TAYLOR The Catalogue of Cricket Literature London: Merritt and Hatcher, 1906. 8vo., interleaved, full blue calf gilt for Eagar, original printed front wrapper bound in, gilt edges (spine bands a little rubbed, wrapper spotted). Provenance : PRESENTATION COPY TO H.E. HOLMES (author's signed inscription on front blank) -- "I obtained my copy from Mr. Curnew who is a South African" (Eagar Catalogue note). FIRST EDITION IN BOOK FORM, No. 9 OF 50 COPIES signed by the author. Faint pencil ticks indicate books in the Eagar collection. "There may well have been more than the original 50 copies and there was a certain amount of juggling with the numbers!" Eagar writes in Britton's I00 Best . "Undoubtedly a number of these paper-covered books have been destroyed and I doubt whether as many as 35 are now in existence." Goldman p. 40: "another foundation stone of this catalogue"; Taylor p. 100; Padwick 39.
