ALKEN, Henry (1784-1851). The National Sports of Great Britain. London: Howlett and Brimmer for Thomas M'Lean, 1825 [text watermarked 1822]. 8° (276 x 176mm). 50 stipple-engraved plates, EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED WITH 24 ADDITIONAL STIPPLE-ENGRAVED PLATES, all by Alken. (Text leaf to "Coursing. Finding -- Soho!" creased.) Later publisher's? purple cloth, blocked in blind, morocco title-label on spine, upper cover titled in gilt on central blind oval (spine very slightly rubbed at head and foot). Provenance : Lewis Richard Ashurst (booklabel). The binding dates from about 1850.
