(old pen foliation skipping a f. between 96-97), expertly written in black ink, ll., catchwords at end of quires. Mod. calf, decorative endpapers, red sp. edges (sl. rubbed, some scratches on covers). Overall excellent, text in mint condition. Collection of letters and polemical writings of St. Ambrose of Milan (340-397), mainly on the church politics of Emperor Theodosius I (347-395). Illustration: Rubricated headings or titles. Two- and three-line initials in red and blue. Initial f. with a nine-line gilt initial "P" with blue and red penwork extending into the inner margin. Inner margin of f. decorated in red and green with nice small strawberries. Prov. Coat of arms (unfinished?) at bottom f. 1r.
