American Civil War Interest: Assembled American Silver and Glass Field Communion Set Comprising two patens retailed by Cooper & Fisher, New York, 1850s, a flagon, and a cruet bottle engraved MWCB Burlington August 13th AD 1862 the Battlefield of Fredericksburg December 13th AD 1862 "We bless Thy Holy Name for all Thy servants departed this life in Thy faith and fear". Height of flagon 10 inches, total approximately 24 ounces, weighable. The Battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia was fought over the course of December 11-15, 1862 and is regarded as one of the bloodiest battles of the War. The Union suffered casualties of more than 12,500 while the victorious Confederates lost approximately 6,000 men. The chaplain who used this communion set would have been very important to the men on the field. Many soldiers were just teens away from home for the first time in their lives and the chaplain would have provided comfort and support they needed to get through these terrible days. Over 2,300 men served as chaplains to the Union Army (and another 1300 for the Confederacy), of which 419 died on both sides showing these brave men took their duty into the heart of battle. C
